The true story of James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (Johnny Depp), the brother (Benedict Cumberbatch) of a state senator, who incidentally became the most infamous criminal in the history of South Boston and an FBI informant.

Is The Plot Interesting?

For me the story is what makes this movie unique. There might be lots of crime drama films already out there but James ‘Whitey’ Bulger’s story just stands out to me for some reason.

Is The Acting Good?

Johnny Depp is good in Black Mass but I wouldn’t say it’s his best performance, however it is definitely in the upper half. I liked how much complexity and intricacy he brought to the character.

Is The Directing Good?

I liked the directing but I didn’t love it – it had its good moments but it wasn’t amazing. I think Scott Cooper was without a doubt perfect for the job and made the story with veracity and authenticity.

Is The Cinematography Good?

The cinematography in Black Mass adds to the plot really well. It’s one of the stronger parts of the movie because of how much depth and insight it brings to the already strong story.

Is It Worth Watching?

Black Mass is an enjoyable movie that had some great moments, and good performances, within it. You should give Black Mass a watch; I think you’d be missing out on an unbelievable story if you don’t!

Take your shot, but make it your best. ‘Cause I get up, I eat ya.
