Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, meet while pursuing their dreams in modern-day Los Angeles. They begin to question which is more important: a once-in-a-lifetime love or the spotlight.
Is The Plot Interesting?
One of the things that I noticed was for me personally, the music took me out of the story. When the plot got interesting, a musical number would come on and I would be instantly taken out of the experience.
Is The Acting Good?
The performances are amazing. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are very believable. La La Land was cast perfectly and I can’t imagine anyone else playing the roles of Mia and Sebastian.
Is The Directing Good?
Damien Chazelle is clearly inspired by music and that is very apparent in the way he directed La La Land. I think he directed Whiplash better, but that’s not say that he didn’t direct this movie really well.
Is The Cinematography Good?
The way the film was shot is beautiful – the lighting in particular is extremely effective. I also thought the way Los Angeles was used was very smart and seemed to fit the story really well.
Is It Worth Watching?
La La Land is a well made film, with great directing and great performances, but I’m afraid it didn’t help me overlook the fact that I wasn’t interested in the story or the characters. Also, the movie seemed to drag on for a long time and could have been a lot shorter.
People love what other people are passionate about.
