In this world society is divided into five factions: Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest). When Tris (Woodley) is told that she’s Divergent she must hide her status in Dauntless.
Is The Plot Interesting?
The plot tries to be to be like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games and appeal to teenagers and older kids but the truth is… it doesn’t. For some reason I didn’t buy into the world that the movie is set in.
Is The Acting Good?
Zoe Kravitz is the stand out performance for this movie; she captures everything I like about Christina perfectly. I also liked Shailene Woodley’s and Theo James’ performances as Tris and Four.
Is The Directing Good?
If I’m honest I never really noticed the directing while I was watching it, I don’t think it had much effect on the movie and as far as I can tell it didn’t add anything to the overall tone.
Is The Cinematography Good?
The cinematography is what set the overall tone and mood of the movie and I think it made the biggest impact on the end product that we saw on our screens. The lighting in particular caught my eye.
Is It Worth Watching?
Divergent will certainly interest quite a few people, including fans of the book, but if truth be told it didn’t really impress me. Sure, it had its moments but they were few and far between.
Fear does something strange to people like Al. But not you. Fear doesn’t shut you down, it wakes you up.
